Citations!

Didn’t you hate it when when your teacher posed a question to the class and you said the correct answer out loud but somehow your response was drowned out in all the chaos? Then the person sitting beside you who was previously clueless as to what the answer was happens to overhear you, reiterates your answer, and gets credit for it. Likewise, when writing, it is essential to establish and provide recognition to those whose ideas and research we borrow to strengthen our own arguments.

The idea is that every source we use will have important and relevant evidence to look at, and through the use of citation and quoting sources, you will be more able to understand our thoughts as well as the ideas from other people that have shaped our views. Our group blog has chosen to make our arguments and sources easy to follow for you, and we will do so by linking the different articles and sources we use online for easy-click access. However, there are times when we deal with print sources that have no Internet access, and in this case we will try to use the citation style adopted by most high schools, MLA format.

We have chosen to use MLA format as our main format because it’s simple to follow along and everyone is familiar to it. Well at least that’s what we’re hoping for. Many of you are probably familiar with the MLA format and may have already been taught it throughout the years you have been in school. Whether you are in Elementary, Middle, or High School, most likely you have been exposed to MLA even if you did not know it at the time. Sources are cited so that your work as well as others are protected... that way, you won’t have to hide yo kids, hide yo wife, or hide ya sources.
